Truth, Good and Beauty: Imposed Values and Media Manipulation
The environment in which we live today suffered, beginning with the 20th century, certain axiological mutations in the framework of the newly developed technologies of disseminate image and information. If in communist period, media was used as a mean of political propaganda, today the state of affair is more nuanced and refined, but not significantly different, as intentionality: the idea of truth distortion, of brain washing, and of becoming robots persists. Moreover, we are direct or indirect targets, through our children, in front of the science of creating desires. We are assaulted by needs we do not have, by necessities that are not necessary, and we are cross fired of political, commercial and religious competition, and instead of taking a stand, of being revolted, we like the fact that we are in the spot light, that we are important, as the hunted is important to the hunter. This perception which obstructs the force of determination, gives way to the imposed values, influencing us to make them our own, even though not from conviction, but only under the group pressure, with the result of naturalization in the future generations. The symptoms of this state of affair are deeply felt in the familial, communitarian, national, and international relationships. The human being became a simple statistical object, which, at one point, is not anymore regarded as distinct human being, but only as „gregarious animal,” according to the Marxist slogan. The human being cannot hear anymore the voice of his/her conscience, for he or she is made deaf by the noise of media of technical imperatives of telluric existence, and of the rigors of a more and more individualistic society.
The theme of this forum raises the problem of the values mentioned above, from political, and socio-cultural perspectives, exploring into the possibility of a viable alternative that will balance the antisocial tendencies and temperate the various attempts to stir the spirit in the framework of Neo-paganism. In this context we have to talk about the problematic media influence, of advertising and of other productions with an impact on the human psychic, and also the issue of political intervention materialized in juridical form.
We will try to answer questions such as:
- What is the relationship between moral, scientific truth and reality?
- What is the perception of the political world in regard with the truth and what is the role of media in distorting the truth? (See the electoral campaigns – stenograms, tapes, etc.; medical campaigns – with fabricated pandemics, vaccines etc.)
- What is the similarity between the political action and advertisement discourse?
- Why Jesus said that He is the Truth and how can this affirmation cover the human perception of the reality?
- What happens in the present with the values that should be at the foundation of every healthy society? What is the degree of distortion, secularization, and replacement of cultural and moral values?
- How did our society, accommodate, in a few years, practices, attitudes and models that challenge traditional morality? Who is interested to promote such „values” and why?
- What will happen with the young generations, if, in the name of freedom of speech and of artistic freedom, there are not any more taboos (restrictions), as we perceived them once (they suffered mutations as the result of the reverse of axiological ladder, now for ex. they became taboos, sexual and ethnic minorities etc., including the commercial interests in a framework of political correctness)?
- What is the degree of influence between the socio-cultural environments on the Christian communities?
- In what measure are or are not beneficial the advanced technologies, especially the communicational ones? How are they influencing the perception on human being and on inter-human relationships?
- Which are the real human needs?
